Ladies and gentleman this is your captain speaking

Sometimes you see a band and you might as well be stood watching a CD player on stage playing their albums, sometimes however you see a band and you realise that the albums you have been adoring don’t even display 20% of their talent. 100 Monkeys are one of those bands. I saw them live for the first but definitely not last time 11 days ago and I’m still buzzing from it a bit.  I honestly can’t recommend this band more highly, they are all such talented musicians, their lyrics are a mix of the profound and the witty, the stage show is insanely energetic and Rolling Stone has listed them as one of this years 5 Breakout Bands to watch.

“This eccentric Cali act have a built-in buzz magnet — bandmember Jackson Rathbone, also known as one of Twilight’s famous vampires. Their spazzy, energetic Saturday set blended tribal sounds with vocals recalling Jim Morrison’s baritone croon. The “can-this-be-real?” factor ran high thanks to song titles like “The Monkey Song,” lyrics like “free, free, free the beast” and five guys in bandanas jumping around and playing hand drums, trumpet and flute. The band’s latest release, Grape, is out now.” Erica Futtermann http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/;kw=%5B13193,141762%5D

100 Monkeys

This band are making me so happy at the moment. The other week I said one of my favourite things in the world is discovering bands who make we wonder how I ever lived without them – 100 Monkeys are one of these bands.

Trying not to plagiarise too much from wiki the 100th monkey effect is a phenomenon in learned behaviour. once the population reaches a critical number (100) behaviour spreads instantaneously from one group of monkeys to all related monkeys. Transferring this idea to humans it means that once a certain proportion of the population has heard of a new idea or ability then it will instantaneously spread to the rest of the population – it’s a collective consciousness thing.  So here I am doing my bit for 100 Monkeys and the 100th monkey effect.

100 Monkeys are Jackson Rathbone, Ben Graupner, Jerad Anderson, Ben Johnson and Uncle Larry and their music is a fusion of jazz and swing, with rock n roll sensibilities. The whole band are multi instrumentalists so everyone does a bit of everything, they’re not your average band where everyone has there assigned roles and there is no room for movement.

You might have heard of Jackson before, he’s also an actor probably best known for playing Jasper Hale in the Twilight series and although he’s phenomenal you can tell that music is his true love.

I think one of my favourite things about this band is their ability to improvise, one of my favourites is Boo Boo Kitty Fuck, a totally spur of the moment but genius song.

I have my fingers crossed that they are going to make it over to the UK to do some gigs in the near future.
